Advertisements

The 1991 film Terminator 2: Judgment Day will officially be getting a 30th-anniversary edition 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook release on November 23rd, via Lionsgate, as a retailer exclusive. More on that in a bit. The film, directed & co-written by James Cameron, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Earl Boen, Joe Morton, and Robert Patrick.

This new 4K release will be using the 2017 restoration of the film, which was supervised by James Cameron. The official news just came yesterday via a post on Twitter which unveiled some more glimpses of the art (by Tracie Ching and Orlando Arocena). The exact tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been fully detailed, but stay tuned for an update. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that the 4K will come with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart and include a digital code (copy) of the film as well. As mentioned, and confirmed by the official tweet, this 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook will be an exclusive for retailer Best Buy, and you can now find it available there for preorder. More details on this release as they come in.

Below you can find some further glimpses at the artwork, via the official Terminator 2 Twitter account. For larger images, click here and browse via the tweet.

The 1983 film The Outsiders will officially be getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release on November 9th, via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (stateside) and Studiocanal (in the UK). The film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, has received a new 4K restoration by his company American Zoetrope. This new 4K restoration includes a new extended version “The Outsiders: The Complete Novel” as well as the original theatrical cut — using the original camera negatives. Below you can find a quote by the filmmaker regarding this new cut of the movie.

Said Coppola, ‘“The Outsiders The Complete Novel’ came about after meeting students over the years who repeatedly asked me why certain scenes from S.E. Hinton’s wonderful book were missing from the theatrical version. These questions reminded about my inspiration for the film—in 1980, a contingent of 12- to 14-year-old students wrote and asked me to make it. I listened to those young fans back then, and I continue to listen to young people now and believe in their opinions, so this complete film version of the novel is for them.”

The film, based on the S.E. Hinton novel, starred C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, and Diane Lane. The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release have not yet been fully detailed but it is known you can expect both versions of the film with HDR10, spanning across a 4-disc set. That being said, one would assume this will be a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray included of the film (perhaps one each for both cuts) and one just for bonus materials? That last bit has not yet been confirmed or detailed, so that’s just based on speculation of what will fill the 4 discs.

UPDATE: You can now find the artwork (pictured further above) and the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon and retailer Target.

It is known that a digital copy of the film will be included with the release. The bonus materials set to be included on the 4K release have already been detailed and are listed fully below.

RUMOR: John Carpenter’s They Live 4K stateside

The 1988 John Carpenter film “They Live” might be getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release stateside soon via Scream Factory (Shout! Factory), according to an early retailer listing. No release date is given but I’m thinking perhaps sometime this year like November or December? Fair warning, this is a RUMOR. So, take this with a grain of salt, but it seems maybe, just maybe, according to a retailer listing that this might be happening. The film is showing up listed over at retailer Target right now as THEY LIVE COLLECTOR’S EDITION (4K UHD/BLU-RAY) as you can see HERE (in case they remove the listing). It lists SHOUT FACTORY as the Movie Studio and Horror as the genre, as you’ll see there. Shout! Factory’s horror line of home video titles is Scream Factory, which has previously released this film on Blu-ray. So, this would be pretty logical, right?

Let’s be realistic here. This could have actually just leaked out a bit early? I’m only speculating here, folks. If it’s true, this could be huge news because the film itself has already been released on the 4K UHD Blu-ray format overseas in the UK back in 2018 and again in 2019 via Studiocanal, as well as in France. In fact, Studiocanal actually did 4K restorations of four John Carpenter films — all of which that Scream Factory currently distributes stateside. Let’s hope this turns out to be true and that more John Carpenter films are heading stateside to the 4K UHD Blu-ray format. Who knows, though? This could be nothing but I, as a huge fan of the director and this film, felt it was worth sharing with the horror community and 4K fans.

RUMOR: “Evil Dead II” is headed to 4K UHD Blu-ray in late October

Advertisements

UPDATE: It now also appears that either the original 1981 film or the 2013 film (Evil Dead) will also be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray in October as well. It’s a bit confusing at this point, and still a rumor.

According to an early alert to UK retailer Zavvi, a 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook is going to be released of the 1987 Sam Raimi directed film “Evil Dead II” on October 29th in the UK via StudioCanal. It’s likely we will see this 4K UHD Blu-ray release come stateside around that time, probably right before Halloween. My guess would be we will see it released by Lionsgate in the United States on either October 23rd or October 30th, as they both fall on Tuesdays and are right before Halloween. As with all “rumors” take this with a grain of salt so-to-speak until we see official confirmation. Stay tuned for further updates. This news was originally reported by Bloody Disgusting.
