According to an article I came across at Forbes, the Sony UBP-X700 4K UHD Blu-ray Player has recently received a firmware update to make it capable of outputting Dolby Vision type of HDR (High Dynamic Range) found on some releases. There’s a catch here though, you MUST also be on a Sony 4K TV, and it has to be one that is compatible. In other words, if you went all Sony on your 4K setup you’re likely to be able to update the firmware on both your Player and 4K TV. Although, some (I’m guessing older) Sony 4K TV models might not be capable of the update. What is needed for your Sony 4K TV to be capable of this is that it have the X1 Extreme processor, found in some of their 4K sets. While it may not be amazing news to everyone here, you have to admit it’s very cool. If you own a capable Sony 4K set you’re likely loving this news.
For more information on this I suggest you read the thorough full article, by John Archer, over on Forbes.
