1991 film The Silence of the Lambs comes to 4K October

The 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 19th, via KL Studio Classics. The film, directed by Jonathan Demme and based on the novel, starred Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Frankie Faison, and Ted Levine.

The tech specs for the 4K UHD Blu-ray include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range as well as both lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo sound mixes, on a BD-100. The release will also include the Blu-ray Disc counterpart presented in 1080p HD with the same sound mixes. You can find the 4K UHD Blu-ray now listed for preorder over at Amazon. The 2020 film “Greenland” starring Gerard Butler is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on February 9th via Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The film, directed by Ric Roman Waugh, co-stars Morena Baccarin, David Denman, Hope Davis, Holt McCallany, and Scott Glenn. The tech specs for the Blu-ray release include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it’ll include its DVD counterpart as well as a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the Blu-ray available to preorder over at Amazon. It’s certainly worth noting, that at the time of writing, this film is “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes. The bonus materials set to be included with the release are listed below.

Apocalypse Now comes to 4K UHD Blu-ray in August

The 1979 film Apocalypse Now is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 27th via Lionsgate in a “40th Anniversary Edition” with a Final Cut of the film. Not only will that version be included but there will also be the original theatrical cut and “Apocalypse Now Redux” Extended Cut – along with the Hearts of Darkness (96 minutes) documentary from 1991. The film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starred Martin SheenMarlon BrandoRobert DuvallFrederic Forrest, Sam Bottoms, Laurence Fishburne, Albert Hall, Harrison Ford, Dennis Hopper, and Scott Glenn.

Tech specs for the 4K release include 2160p video, from a 4K restoration of the original negative, presented in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of High Dynamic Range along with Dolby Atmos sound. The release will come as a “combo pack” and include three Blu-ray Discs along with a digital copy of the film. UPDATE: The 4K UHD Blu-ray is now available for pre-order over at retailers Amazon and Best Buy. Stay tuned for an Amazon pre-order listing when it becomes available. Lionsgate has included what appear to be three screenshots in 1920 width (1080p) from this restoration as promotional material. You can watch the teaser trailer on YouTube (also in 1080p HD) if you’d like a better look at the quality but I’m going to include these for readers anyway.

Bonus materials set to be included on the release are very lengthy and span across a total of the 4K UHD Blu-ray disc and THREE Blu-ray Discs. “Castle Rock: The Complete First Season” on 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray January

The Stephen King produced and inspired TV series “Castle Rock: The Complete First Season” (as seen on Hulu) is coming to both 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Disc on January 8th, 2019 via Warner. Tech specs for the 4K release include HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range, with both it and the Blu-ray release getting DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. This show, created by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, the cast for the first season features André HollandMelanie LynskeyBill SkarsgårdJane LevySissy SpacekCaleel Harris, Scott GlennAdam Rothenberg, and Terry O’Quinn. The 4K release will include the Blu-ray Discs of the first season as well, likely where the bonus materials are housed. Both releases will include a Digital Copy of the complete first season.

The “Jack Ryan 5-Film Collection” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray this August

According to an early alert to retails the “Jack Ryan 5-Film Collection” it seems is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on August 21st via Paramount. The films had been rumored for 4K release individually, however now we get confirmation via this retail listing that they will be bundled – just as the first 4 films have been on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. The release contains the following films:

  • Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” (2014)
  • The Sum of All Fears” (2002)
  • Clear and Present Danger” (1994)
  • Patriot Games” (1992)
  • The Hunt for Red October” (1990)
