1996 film Matilda arrives in 4K this September

The 1996 film adaptation of the story “Matilda” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray format in limited edition SteelBook packaging on September 5th via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.  The film, based on the Roald Dahl book of the same title was directed by, produced by, and co-starred Danny DeVito.  It starred Mara Wilson, Rhea Pearlman, Embeth Davidtz, Pam Ferris, and Paul Reubens.  The release will include a new 4K scan of the film [“scanned from the original camera negative”] presented in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range, presented in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio, as well as feature sound in Dolby Atmos and the original theatrical 5.1 surround in lossless DTS-HD Master Audio.  This 2-disc release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning it will also include the Blu-ray as well as a digital copy of the film.  Also, the release will feature an all-new director audio commentary with Danny Devito, as listed below along with the other extras set to be included on this release as bonus materials.

1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on 4K June

The 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 29th via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film, a screen adaptation that was written by the very same author of the book (Roald Dahl), was directed by Mel Stuart. It starred Gene WilderJack AlbertsonPeter OstrumJulie Dawn Cole, Roy Kinnear, Denise Nickerson, Leonard Stone, Paris Themmen, Nora Denney, Michael Bollner, Ursula Reit, Diana Sowle, and Günter Meisner. The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 form of high dynamic range and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless surround sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that you’ll get the Blu-ray Disc counterpart in addition to a digital code (copy) of the film. It is most certainly worth noting that this 1971 children’s film is still, at the time of writing this with a 90% rating, “Certified Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes.

UPDATE: This title was officially announced today by Warner. There’s a placeholder page now over at Amazon for the 4K UHD Blu-ray, but it’s not yet a functional preorder listing. Stay tuned to that page or here for an update. In the meantime, you can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray already listed as available for preorder (with said release date) over at retailer Target and over at online retailers Deep Discount and HD Movie Source.

It also is being said, around social media, that there will be a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook available as an exclusive to retailer Best Buy (pictured below), but there’s no listing yet to back that up.
