1994 film The Crow arrives on 4K Blu-ray this May

The 1994 Alex Proyas film “The Crow” is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on May 7th via Paramount, according to the retail sources. There will be the choice of either a standard 4K UHD Blu-ray (pictured above) or a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteeelBook (pictured below) available. You can now find both available for preorder over at Amazon. The film starred the late Brandon Lee and co-starred Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson, Sofia Shinas, Michael Wincott, Bai Ling, Anna Thomson, David Patrick Kelly, Angel David, Laurence Mason, and Tony Todd.

The tech specs and bonus materials for this 30th-anniversary release of the film have yet to be detailed. The releases each will include only the 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc and a digital code (copy) of the film. No Blu-ray will be included. Stay tuned for updates on the tech specs and extras.

The 1989 film Leviathan comes to 4K in February

The 1989 film “Leviathan” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on February 20th via KL Studio Classics (Kino Lorber). The film was directed by George P. Cosmatos and starred Peter Weller, Richard Crenna, Amanda Pays, Daniel Stern, Michael Carmine, Meg Foster, Ernie Hudson, and Hector Elizondo. The movie has received a NEW master from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Interpositive. Tech specs for the release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR10 forms of high dynamic range and both lossless 5.1 surround and 2.0 Stereo sound mixes on a BD-100 disc. The release will come as a “combo pack” with its Blu-ray Disc counterpart included. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray available for preorder at Amazon and directly via Kino Lorber. 1994 film No Escape with Ray Liotta comes to Blu-ray

The 1994 film “No Escape“ starring the late great Ray Liotta is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc for the first time [in the U.S.] on October 11th via Unearthed Films, under the Unearthed Classics division. The science fiction film [set in the year 2022] was directed by Martin Campbell, also known for directing “Casino Royale” (2006). It co-starred Lance Henriksen, Stuart Wilson, Kevin Dillon, Ernie Hudson, and the late Michael Lerner.
The tech specs for the release include a 1080p HD presentation in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio with options of both lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and uncompressed LPCM 2.0 Stereo sound mixes. Unearthed Films sent along with some promo images that seem to be screenshots [found below] from the new transfer of the film in HD. They, oddly enough though are 1918 pixels instead of 1920 pixels wide though for some reason. So, technically these are not in full HD just by 2 pixels in width? Still, it gives you an idea of how it should look, which is rather impressive.

Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection set on 4K in February

There will be a “Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection“ on 4K UHD Blu-ray as a gift set coming on February 1st, 2022, to celebrate the home video release of the latest film in the franchise, via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The box set will physically include the following three films:
- “Ghostbusters” (1984)
- “Ghostbusters II” (1989)
- “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (2021)
MAJOR UPDATE: Sony has just informed me that digitally this set will include the aforementioned films as well as “Ghostbusters” (2016) — but, only in digital form (via code on a paper insert). The other three films will come in the form of a “combo pack” with each receiving its Blu-ray Disc [physical] counterpart.
This set will come with some excellent physical extras, including:
- A collectible “ghost trap” packaging with lights
- A full 220-page reprint of the rare 1985 “Making GHOSTBUSTERS” book
And, this set will [for now exclusively] also include new versions of the first two “Ghostbusters” films on 4K that now feature Dolby Vision form of high dynamic range as well as HDR10 (each) in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio, along with Dolby Atmos sound. The tech specs for the third film include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range as well as Dolby Atmos sound.

The 2021 sequel “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on February 1st, 2022 via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The film, directed and co-written by Jason Reitman, stars Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson.
The tech specs for the 4K release include a 2160p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR10 and Dolby Vision forms of high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos sound. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p video presentation in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K release will come in the form of a “combo pack” meaning that it will include its Blu-ray counterpart, and each release will come with a digital code (copy) of the film. You can now find the 4K UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray available for preorder over at Amazon.
It’s most certainly worth noting that an elaborate box set will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray as well, which includes the film, called the “Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection“ that I’ll be detailing further in another news story. Stay tuned for the full details on that release. Also, a 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook (pictured below) seems to be coming for the film as an exclusive over at online retailer Zavvi and possibly also at another physical retailer [Best Buy]. The latter of that has yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned for a possible update.

Going Berserk with John Candy on Blu-ray in December

The 1983 comedy “Going Berserk“ is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on December 14th via Shout Select (Shout! Factory). This movie will be making its debut in North America on the Blu-ray format. The film, directed by David Steinberg, starred “SCTV” cast members John Candy, Joe Flaherty, and Eugene Levy. It co-starred Alley Mills, Pat Hingle, Kurtwood Smith, and Ernie Hudson.
The tech specs for the Blu-ray include a 1080p HD video presentation in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio and a lossless sound mix (not yet detailed). The Blu-ray is not yet available for preorder over at Amazon, but there’s a product page already up. Stay tuned for an update on that. 1994 film The Cowboy Way comes to Blu-ray in February

The 1994 film “The Cowboy Way” starring Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland is coming to Blu-ray Disc, for the first time, on February 16th, 2021, via Mill Creek Entertainment. The film, directed by Gregg Champion, co-starred Dylan McDermott, Ernie Hudson, Cara Buono, Marg Helgenberger, Tomas Milian, and Luis Guzmán. Tech specs for the release have not yet been detailed and nor have bonus materials — if any will be included. Stay tuned for a possible update on that. “Ghostbusters 1 & 2” 35th Anniversary 4K Steelbook in June

The Ivan Reitman directed films “Ghostbusters” (1984) and “Ghostbusters II” (1989) are both getting a special 35th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook release on June 11th via Sony. The “Ghostbusters 1 & 2: 35th Anniversary“ Limited Edition 4K Steelbook had first been reported by the folks over at Ghostbusters.net and now it is available for pre-order over at Amazon. The 4K tech specs remain identical to the previously released 4K UHD Blu-ray versions of the two films. However, a large number of new bonus materials are going to be included exclusively in this release. The full list of extras set to be included on an extra bonus disc can be found below, after the break.
