Michael Bay film “13 Hours” with John Krasinski on 4K UHD Blu-ray in June

The 2016 Michael Bay directed film “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” starring John Krasinski is officially coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on June 11th, via Paramount. The film, based on true events, co-stars Pablo SchreiberJames Badge Dale, David Denman, Dominic Fumusa, Max Martini, Alexia Barlier, and David Costabile. The tech specs for the 4K release have not yet been detailed but you can expect a 2160p presentation with at least the HDR10 form of High Dynamic Range and Dolby Atmos sound (as found on the previous Blu-ray). The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a Blu-ray Disc and a digital copy of the film included. The bonus materials from the original Blu-ray release will be the only form of extras. The title on 4K is not yet available for pre-order over at Amazon but stay tuned for an update as to when it does.

1928 silent film “The Man Who Laughs” comes to Blu-ray restored in June

The 1928 silent film The Man Who Laughs starring Conrad Veidt and Mary Philbin is coming to Blu-ray Disc on June 4th, via Flicker Alley. The film has received a new 4K restoration, done by NBC Universal Studio Post. This release will feature a newly recorded orchestral score by the Berklee School of Music as well as the original score. It will come as a “Deluxe Dual-Format Edition” with a DVD of the film also included. The Blu-ray is now available for pre-order over at Amazon. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

  • Paul Leni and The Man Who Laughs: A visual essay by film historian and author, John Soister, on Leni s work at Universal during this period.
  • Celebrating Universal’s Masterpiece: A new booklet essay written by renowned film historian and author, Kevin Brownlow.
  • Notes On the New Score: A short essay by composer Sonia Coronado of the Berklee School of Music on their new score for The Man Who Laughs.
  • Optional Secondary Audio Track: In addition to the new Berklee School of Music score, the film s original 1928 Movietone score presented here as a secondary audio track.

“Replicas” featuring Keanu Reeves and Alice Eve is coming to Blu-ray in April

Science fiction thriller Replicas featuring Keanu Reeves and Alice Eve is officially coming to Blu-ray Disc on April 16th via Lionsgate. The film, directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, features a supporting cast consisting of Thomas MiddleditchJohn Ortiz, Emjay Anthony, and Emily Alyn Lind. Tech specs for the Blu-ray include 1080p HD video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. The release will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a DVD and digital copy of the film included. The Blu-ray doesn’t have a functional pre-order listing yet over at Amazon, but there is a placeholder. Bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.

RUMOR: “Happy Death Day 2U” starring Jessica Rothe comes to Blu-ray in May

The 2019 sequel Happy Death Day 2U is rumored to be coming to Blu-ray Disc on May 14th via Universal, according to early alerts to retailers. I am only saying this is a rumor as the studio has not yet officially announced this title. The film, produced by Blumhouse & directed by Christopher Landon, includes a cast of  Jessica RotheIsrael BroussardPhi Vu, Suraj Sharma, Sarah Yarkin, Rachel Matthews, and Ruby Modine. There is no info yet regarding tech specs or bonus materials set to be included on the release. It is known that it will come in the form of a “combo pack” with a DVD and digital copy of the film included. The Blu-ray is already available to pre-order over at Amazon and it even has a placeholder over at Best Buy (with the release date listed). Stay tuned for any updates on this release.
